Dan Mak, Consultant
Dan Mak joined The Beck Group in 2007. Since that time, he has managed the company’s first industry benchmarking assessment of wood I-Joist manufacturers in Canada and the US. He has also been a contributor to a number of expert witness reports. He has provided data quantification and benefit valuation concerning a forest products trade dispute arbitration. He has provided quantitative and analytical support for a timber resource management dispute. He has created damages claim alternatives presented for use in settlement negotiations.
Before joining The Beck Group, Dan was a Quality Auditor for APA – The Engineered Wood Association, an association which provides quality assurance, technical, educational and product promotion services for North American engineered wood product members. His responsibilities included conducting product and process audits of oriented strand board, plywood, and glued laminated timber producing membership in Western Canada.
Prior to this position, he worked as a Wood Technologist for Western Wood Products Association, an association which provides lumber grading, quality control, technical support, business information, and product support for solid sawn wood producers in the Western US territory. He piloted and participated in technical projects for members such as the QMS (quality management system) program, lab testing and characterization of MSR products, field certifications for heat treatment, and development of a quality control protocol for lumber grade scanning systems.
Dan has also worked in the process and quality control fields in solid-sawn, engineered, and value-added operations for Weyerhaeuser, Canfor, iLevel and the Knoll Group in British Columbia and Ontario.
