Roy Anderson, Senior Consultant
Roy Anderson joined The Beck Group in 2006. Since that time, Roy has led a variety of projects, including a fuel supply study for a prospective cogeneration facility in the Pacific Northwest and several cogeneration feasibility studies in the Pacific Northwest, Inland West, and the Southeastern United States. From that work Roy has developed cogeneration expertise related to the analysis of fuel supply, plant sizing, capital costs, operating cost, financial analysis, and return on investment. He has also been involved in negotiations with utilities regarding power purchase agreements.
Roy has also completed a number of pellet manufacturing feasibility studies for clients in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and the Southeastern United States. As a result of that work, Roy has developed expertise related to the pellet manufacturing process, the ongoing operating costs associated with pellet manufacturing, the capital costs associated with purchasing pellet manufacturing equipment, and markets for finished wood pellets.
Roy has also completed log tests to measure the performance of sawmills in the U.S. West and U.S. South; sawmill audits to identify low-cost/no-cost mill performance improvement opportunities; and numerous other feasibility studies (wood shavings & sawmills). He has also completed timber growth and demand studies for sawmills in the U.S. South and Inland West, market research related to the development of new forest products, and development of computer-based sawmill performance models. Finally, Roy has gathered and analyzed information for several expert witness cases.
Roy has 18 years of experience in the field of forestry and forest products. Before joining The Beck Group, he was a forest products specialist with the Montana State University Extension Service where his responsibilities included developing and delivering forest products utilization and marketing outreach programs to Montana’s forest products industry and private forest landowners. Roy has a PhD in forest products marketing from Oregon State University, a Masters in wood science from the University of Minnesota, and a BS in forest management from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. His research has been published in the Journal of Forestry and the Forest Products Journal. Roy started his forestry career in Wisconsin’s hardwood timber industry where he worked as a procurement forester, hardwood lumber sales person, and logger.
