Steve Kroll has spent over 43 years working in the forest products industry in the US West, including major forest products manufacturing organizations such as Interfor, Crown Pacific, Prairie Wood Products, and Sierra Pacific Industries. Beginning as an hourly employee, Steve worked his way up the ranks to production crew supervisor, plant maintenance oversight, division accountant, mill manager, and multi-mill general manager. Steve’s diverse background gives him an exceptional understanding of all types of forest products manufacturing operations. He has developed log procurement and power generation strategies, and has led the achievement of top quartile operational excellence.
His extensive experience includes large log grade sawing, as well as small log high speed operations; starting a greenfield mill operation while exceeding pro forma targets; designing and implementing facility safety and environmental programs; implementation of programs to lower employee turnover; establishing annual budgets for multiple mill operations; strategic planning to lead operational improvements; assessing feasibility of asset purchases and sales to enhance overall returns; determining and authorizing log procurement profiles for multiple mills, including short- and long-term timber purchases through all market cycles; implementation and administration of capital improvement programs from initial planning and feasibility to completion; execution of uptime and production improvements to drive results to top decile levels; and identifying bottlenecks and efficiency enhancements to create strategic plans for performance improvement.
