Steve Kroll

Steve Kroll has over 43 years working in the forest products industry in the US West. His broad-based background gives him a unique understanding of lumber manufacturing operations, having worked through the ranks from an hourly employee to supervising production crews, overseeing plant maintenance operations, division accountant, mill manager and multi mill general manager. Steve has worked for major forest products manufacturing organizations including Interfor US Inc., Crown Pacific, Prairie Wood Products and Sierra Pacific Industries.

 

Steve’s extensive experience includes:

 

• Large log grade sawing, as well as small log high speed operations

• Starting a greenfield mill operation while exceeding proforma targets

• Designing and implementing facility Safety and Environmental programs

• Implemented programs to lower employee turnover

• Established annual budgets for multiple mill operations

• Providing strategic planning to lead operational improvements

• Assessing feasibility of asset purchases and sales to enhance overall corporate returns

• Determined and authorized log procurement profiles including short and long term timber purchases through all market cycles for multiple mills

• Implemented and administered capital improvement programs from initial planning and feasibility to completion

• Executed cost, uptime and production improvements to drive results to top decile levels

• Identifying bottlenecks and efficiency enhancements to create strategic plans for both their short- and long-term improvement

 

Steve’s diverse background gives him an exceptional understanding of sawmilling operations at all levels from log procurement strategies to achieving top quartile operational excellence.
